Mobius Climate Statement
Introduction
Mobius has firm intentions and ambitions to be a positive influence in relation to matters affecting the climate, including but not limited to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction and pollution.
Our Work
Much of our client work has a specific involvement or influence of such matters, focussing on helping clients improving the energy performance of their building stock, through our specialist work on Energy Performance Certificates and the impact of the
‘MEES’ Regulations.
Through this work, we strongly promote the adoption of building systems fuelled by renewable and low carbon/low emission means, and consistently work with partners to seek out new and improving means for continual reduction in carbon emissions from respective buildings we advise on.
Our Commitments and Actions
Mobius’ further takes responsibility itself for its own direct impact upon the environment and has instigated some key policies and procedures which we employ in everyday work, including:
• Travel – Where travel is required for work-related matters, e.g. site inspections, we ensure that journeys are taken by public transport in all cases unless it is unfeasible. Versus taking the same journeys by private ICE cars, this secures a significant reduction in travel-related carbon.
• Travel to work – Our office is located very near to a main London terminus and is highly accessible by public transport, hence resulting in travel to work being almost always by these means.
• Office premises – Our offices are located in a historic building. Whilst the thermal efficiency of the building itself is not up to modern standards, it has been significantly improved in terms of its energy performance and our offices are now complete with a ‘heat pump’ air conditioning system, LED lighting, and no use of gas-heating.
• Paper Use – The very vast majority of our work is carried out on a ‘paperless’ basis and we generally print fewer than 10 pages per working day. We have invested in energy-efficient screen and technology to enable digital review of documents to further limit any need for printing.
• Waste – We have instigated a strict recycling procedure to ensure that all recyclable materials arising in the office are recycled in their intended manner and in turn that landfill waste is limited.
• CPD – We ensure that all members of the Mobius team are aware of environmental legislation affecting their work and that we promote the above commitments to all.
Results and Monitoring
We are yet to instigate action or policy for specifically measuring the impact of this policy, but as part of our business planning, are targeting a date of between 2030 and 2035 to take the required action and assessments to be certified as ‘net zero’.
Continuous Improvement
Through our professional work, Mobius is particularly close to and aware of various climate, environmental and wellbeing-related measures and endeavours which we monitor to identify where these may be suitable for implementation, either to our own business or for recommendation to those we advise. Examples of this include:
- B Corp certification;
- BREEAM Assessment and Certification;
- NABERS;
- WELL Building Standard.
Conclusion
Impact upon the environment is a key aspect of the advice we provide to clients every day and is a constant theme throughout our work and culture.
We are committed to continuing and expanding our work and commitment to this area, and ensuring that we as a business are ‘net zero carbon’ by 2035.
